Walking
Walking is an active way to travel that is often underused, however the benefits are insurmountable.
Walking is economical, ecologically friendly and has the added benefits of keeping you healthy. By incorporating walking into your daily commute you can reduce strees, burn calories and arrive at work alert and refreshed.
It is easy to cover distances of up to 3 kilometres in any weather, and it is also possible to incorporate it into sustainable transport, such as walking to
a bus stop or carpool pickup spot, or parking outside the city centre and walking the rest of the way.
For people who enjoy the company of others, how about setting up a walking buddy system? And again, remember the benefits of an active
lifestyle; not everybody enjoys or finds the time to get to the gym, so instead use your walk to work as your main source of moderate exercise: a 125-pound woman
walking at a good clip for 30 minutes burns 160 calories, and a 196-pound man burns 235 calories!
Like other forms of active transportation the right facilities may be required, such as showers and lockers, but the benefits from happy,
healthy and productive employees will be apparent.
