Efficient driving is a skill that will help you save even more money and reduce emissions on your commute.
- Plan your errands for the same day to reduce the number of trips you make.
- Avoid rush hour.
- Use a synthetic, low viscosity engine oil.
- Don’t opt for 4 wheel drive.
- Buy a vehicle that’s easy on gas.
- Check your tire pressure every month.
- Change your oil every 5000 kms.
- Change your air filter every 12,000 kms.
- Drive the speed limit
- Avoid drive thru’s
- Get into high gear quickly.
- Take it easy on your car while it’s warming up: first 5 – 10 kms.
- Limit use of air conditioning.
- Remove excess weight from the car ie. Junk in the trunk, roof racks)
- Use your cruise control.
- Don’t accelerate up hill.
- Be a road surfer: stop ‘jackrabbit driving’
- Warm up your car for maximum of 30 seconds.
- Turn off your car if you’re waiting for more than 10 seconds.
- Opt for manual transmission
